Saint-Barthélemy est une île française des Petites Antilles. Elle est plus souvent appelée Saint-Barth (ou St Barts par les anglophones). Ses habitants sont appelés St-Barths.

L'île de St Barth se situe à 230 km au nord-ouest de la Guadeloupe, et à 25 km au sud-est de St-Martin. C’est une île montagneuse faite essentiellement de roches volcaniques d’environ 21 km². Elle a  32 km de côtes.

L'île Saint Barthélemy fait partie des îles Sous-Le-Vent dans les Petites Antilles. Elle est située entre l'île de Saint Martin et les îles St Kitts et Nevis (Saint christophe et Niévès) au sud-ouest et l'île Barbuda au sud-est.

Saint Barth compte plusieurs îlots : île Chevreau, île Coco, île Fourchue, île Frégate, île de la Tortue, île Le Boulanger, Les Grenadins, Pain-de-Sucre, île Pelée, île Petit-Jean, île Toc Vert.

Sa population totale à compter du 1^er janvier 2012 s’élève à 9 000 habitants. Le point culminant de l’île est le morne de Vitet, à 286 m.

Les plages...

St Jean est, après Gustavia, le quartier le plus actif de l'île. Sa plage se divise en deux parties, séparées par l'hôtel Eden Rock. La première partie se trouve du côté de l'aéroport.  Surprenant de voir atterrir ou décoller les avions ! Prudence et surtout respectez les consignes. Les activités nautiques sont aussi faciles d'accès.

La plage de Grand Fond, reste la plus mystérieuse des plages, la baignade est déconseillée à cause de nombreux rochers et coraux sortant de l'eau. Une petite promenade sur les galets aux caresses du vent et se laisser bercer par le bruit des vagues, voilà une agréable façon de se ressourcer.

Saint Barthélemy, officially the Territorial collectivity of Saint Barthélemy, is an overseas collectivity of France. Often abbreviated to Saint-Barth in French, or St. Barts (also, St. Barth's) in English, the indigenous people called the island Ouanalao.

The collectivity is one of four territories among the Leeward Islands in the northeastern Caribbean that comprise the French West Indies, along with Guadeloupe (200 km southeast), Martinique and Saint Martin. St. Barts lies about 35 km (21.75 mi) southeast of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin, and north of St. Kitts.

Saint Barthélemy, a volcanic island fully encircled by shallow reefs, has an area of 21 km² (8.1 mi²) and a population of 8,823 (census 2008). Its capital is Gustavia, which also contains the main harbour to the island. It is the only Caribbean island which was a Swedish colony for any significant length of time; Guadeloupe was under Swedish rule only briefly, at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Symbolism from the Swedish national arms, the Three Crowns, still appears in the island's coat of arms. The language, cuisine and culture, however, are distinctly French. The island is a popular tourist destination during the winter holiday season, especially the rich and famous during the Christmas and New Year period

This tiny rock, smaller and less populated than many villages  in  the French countryside, has  few resources other  than  its  charm,  its  erpetual  sunshine,  the underwater wealth of its Marine Park, and its protected landscapes.

And of course, the island is an excellent tourist destination: one of the most varied and upscale, with villas, hotels, spas, some of the best restaurants in the Caribbean, a wide choice of leisure activities and nautical sports, prestigious sailing regattas, a full calendar of cultural events, and the irresistible allure of great hopping?

Beaches

St Jean is one of the busiest areas on the island, second only to Gustavia. The beach is divided into two sections separated by the Eden Rock Hotel. The first half of the beach stretches as far as the airport, and one must be careful if watching the planes land or take off so close to the sand. Pay attention to the signs! There is also easy access for many nautical activities, from windsurfing to catamarans. The second part of the beach, on the other side of the hotel, is calmer, and ideal for swimming or snorkeling.

The beach in Grand Fond remains one of the most intriguing of the island's beaches, where swimming is discouraged due to the many large and small rocks in the water. But a brisk walk along the rounded stones on the shore, where you are caressed by the wind and embraced by the sound of the surf, is a pleasant way to get rejuvenated.
